Al Noor Island Sharjah: What You Should Know

Al Noor Island is in Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah. It’s been there since 2015. Shurooq built it. You get there by walking across a bridge behind the Al Noor Mosque on Buhairah Corniche Road.

How to Get Around

The bridge takes you from the road onto the island. Once you’re there, the paths are laid out pretty clearly. There’s about 3.5 kilometers of boardwalk. Lots of shade from trees. Benches everywhere if you need to sit.

The whole island has over 70,000 plants and trees. So it’s green. Really green. You won’t feel lost. Signs are there. The paths don’t go in confusing directions.

I’d suggest giving yourself at least a couple of hours here because there’s more to the island than most people expect. You might come for the butterflies, spend time looking at the art installations, stop for a coffee by the water, and end up staying longer than you planned. That’s kind of the appeal of the place. It doesn’t feel rushed.

The Butterflies

The butterfly house is the main thing. Around 500 butterflies. Different types. Pink rose, emerald swallowtail, that kind of stuff. The building keeps them warm and humid like they need.

You can watch chrysalises at different stages. If you get a guide, they show you how to let butterflies land on your hand. Kids actually pay attention when someone explains what’s happening. It’s not boring.

The Standard Pass is 50 AED for adults, 30 for kids. You get in with a guide. Takes about an hour. If you just want to walk through without a guide, the basic 20 AED ticket works.

Art on the Island

There are six art pieces around the place. One is a circle that mirrors what’s around it. Another looks like an egg with lights inside. One is called The Swing and it’s by a local artist. It’s about pearl diving. Overlooks the water.

You find them as you walk. They’re not just sitting in the middle of nowhere. They fit with the landscape.

At night the island lights up. There’s a flower bed with 1,200 lit up flowers that change colors. The paths get lit. The sculptures get lit. It looks different at night than during the day. Not overdone though.

Things to Do

You can just walk around. That’s fine. If you want structure, the Butterfly House has guides. The Explorer Pass gives you a map and you explore on your own. There’s a stargazing thing where you use telescopes. Not crowded so you actually get time.

Yoga at sunrise if that’s your thing. By the Bay is eating by the water with a view. They do gardening workshops once a month. That’s a real thing people do.
