So I’ve been hearing about this place for ages, and finally made the trip last month. Honestly? It’s way better than I expected. Most people just talk about the usual stuff – Dune, the malls, whatever – but this garden thing in Kalba is genuinely different. You drive out there, and suddenly you’re in this massive green space with a waterfall and mountains. It’s weird in the best way.
The whole setup is 1.6 million square feet of garden sitting at 281 meters up. They planted like 100,000 trees or something. I didn’t count them, but yeah, there’s a lot of green. Entry is 5 AED. That’s basically nothing. You park for another 5-10 AED depending on where you leave your car, and you’re good to go.
Look, the drive from Dubai takes about 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on how bad traffic is that day. From Sharjah it’s quicker, maybe 30 minutes more. You take the Sharjah-Kalba Road (S/E102). There are two exits – one before the Al Heyar Tunnel for the upper area, and one after if you want the lower parking. Both work fine. I went to the lower area first, then drove up to the top later.
If you don’t have a car, buses run from Sharjah and you can grab a taxi. But honestly, having your own wheels makes it way easier. You can just wander around without worrying about schedules or anything.
The place opens at 6 AM and closes at midnight. So you can catch sunrise if you’re into that. I went in the evening once and saw the waterfall all lit up at night, which was actually pretty cool.
The Hiking Trails
There are three trails. The left one is easier – longer but not as steep. Your knees will thank you. The right side has actual steps and gets pretty intense. Both go through these terraced gardens with flowers and trees everywhere. There’s benches along the way, which is good because you’ll need to sit down at some point.
I did the left trail first and honestly my legs were still tired the next day. It’s more of a walk than a hike, but it’s longer than you’d think. The views are nice though. You can see out over the mountains and towards the coast.
There’s also a running track – 760 meters around the park. Some people just do laps. I saw one guy doing like 5 or 6 rounds. Not my thing, but it’s there if you want it.
Bringing Kids
My cousin brought his kids and they went crazy. There’s three different play areas for different ages. Nothing fancy, just the usual stuff – slides, swings, that kind of thing. The skateboard park has ramps of different heights, so kids who can barely stand on a board can practice, and the experienced ones can do their thing.
They’ve got this little train that goes around the park. Holds 55 people. My cousin’s kids loved it. It stops at four stations. One at the top cafeteria, three around the park. It’s useful if you’ve got people who get tired easily or don’t want to walk the whole thing.
Food and Drinks
Habib Beirut is in the middle of the gardens in this round building. Lebanese food. It’s actually good. They do mezze, grilled stuff, soups, the usual Middle Eastern things. During Ramadan they have a set iftar menu for 99 AED that comes with dates, soup, mezze, grilled meat, baklava. My friend said it was worth it.
La Brasseria is up at the top. You have to walk up there, which is a bit of a trek, but the views are insane. You can see the mountains, the lagoon, everything. It’s the place to go if you want to watch the sunset. The food is decent and the service is fine.
There’s also a small cafeteria if you just want coffee or a snack without sitting down for a full meal.
Just Chilling
There’s an amphitheater where they host performances during National Day and other seasonal events. If you happen to visit when the Jashe and Sahnah Festival is on, the whole area feels much livelier with cultural activities and local entertainment.
Accessibility
The lower section is fully wheelchair accessible. Paths are smooth enough for wheelchairs. There’s restrooms on both sides. Prayer rooms for men and women inside the restaurants. A small cafeteria if you want snacks.
If you’re in a wheelchair, the lower area is solid. The upper section requires hiking so that’s tougher. But the lower part is definitely doable.
They’ve got dedicated parking for disabled people and EV charging stations if you’ve got an electric car.
Rules
No pets. That’s it. Don’t bring your dog. Barbecues are not allowed either. Just eat at the restaurants or pack a picnic for the family areas.
Dress respectfully. It’s a more traditional area of Sharjah. Just be normal about it.
If you’re making the drive, might as well do more than one thing. Al Hefaiyah Lake is 4 minutes away. The Bird of Prey Centre is 5 minutes if you want to see falcons and eagles. Kalba Dam is about 8 minutes away, and if you’re curious how the area is growing beyond tourism, the nearby Sea Kalba waterfront community gives you a good idea of what’s being developed along the coast.
October through April is when the weather doesn’t want to kill you. Summer is brutal out there. Afternoons are quieter than mornings and evenings. Evening is good because you get the lit-up waterfall and it’s cooler. If you’re into photography, sunrise and sunset are obviously the best times.
Bring comfortable shoes. Seriously. Your feet will hurt otherwise. Sunscreen and a hat even though there’s trees. Water, especially in summer. If you’re going in the evening bring a light jacket because it gets cool up there.
Yeah, it is. It’s a mountain park with a waterfall, trails, restaurants, and space to just exist. The entry is cheap. The facilities work. It’s accessible for different people. You can spend a few hours or a whole day depending on what you’re into.
If you’re bored with the usual Dubai stuff, this is worth the drive. It’s real, not overly commercialized, and it actually delivers. Bring comfortable shoes, water, maybe a camera. Go when it’s cool. That’s it.

5 AED per person. Kids 2 AED usually. Free if you’re over 60 or have a disability. Parking is 5-10 AED per hour.
