Getting Around Palm Jumeirah Just Got Easier Again

The Palm Monorail is back, offering a 9-minute ride across the island every 15 minutes. It’s a smarter, cheaper alternative to taxis for reaching Atlantis or the malls, fitting right into Dubai’s 2040 vision for a more connected and car-free Palm Jumeirah experience.

I stopped recommending the Palm Monorail to people back in January, once it shut down for station maintenance, and started telling everyone to just grab a taxi instead. That’s no longer necessary. Trains are running again across Palm Jumeirah, every 15 minutes, and honestly it’s a better option than the taxi in most cases, especially as Dubai Taxi Company continues to expand its reach across the city. Here’s what I’d want to know before using it.

It’s open. Six months felt like a lot for “station maintenance,” but here we are

I won’t pretend I know exactly why it took from January to early July, the operator just called it station maintenance and left it there. What I can tell you is it’s back at full strength now, same frequency, same route, nothing scaled down. If you used it before the closure, nothing’s changed on your end.

The actual route

Think of it as one straight line running the length of the Palm. Gateway Station is at the mainland end. Atlantis Aquaventure is at the far tip. Three stops sit in between: Golden Mile Galleria, Al Ittihad Park, and Palm Jumeirah Mall.

Ride the whole thing and it’s about nine minutes. I usually get off one stop early when I’m headed to the mall anyway, which cuts that down to roughly three.

What you’ll pay

Dh10 gets you one way, Dh15 covers a return. If that’s your only trip, fine, buy the single ticket. But if you’re staying nearby for a few days and you know you’ll be back and forth, do the math on the family pass or the unlimited travel pass first. It adds up faster than people expect. You can book online through the operator’s site, or just walk up and buy at the station.

Timings that actually matter

Nobody needs to memorise a timetable here since trains show up every 15 minutes all week. What you do need to remember is when the whole thing shuts down for the night.

Gateway Station runs trains from 9am to 9:45pm. Atlantis runs 9:15am to 10pm. I’ve seen people lose track of time at the beach clubs near Atlantis and miss that last train, and then it’s a taxi anyway, which defeats the point a bit.

Should you actually bother with it?

Depends on where you’re staying, honestly. If you’re on the mainland and coming over for a day trip, this beats dealing with parking or a taxi once you’re on the island, especially if you’re already using Dubai’s public transport network to get there in the first place. It fits perfectly into the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan by making the island more accessible without relying on private cars. It is good for anyone splitting a day between Aquaventure, the beach, and Nakheel Mall or Golden Mile Galleria, and it keeps costs down if there’s a family involved.

If your hotel is a five minute walk from Atlantis, or you’ve got a car sitting in the lot anyway, you probably won’t use it much. Nothing wrong with that either.

What I’d tell a friend before they go

Book online if you can, especially for weekend trips, since the queue at Gateway gets long fast. Don’t cut your return trip close if you’re spending the whole day at Aquaventure, that 10pm train comes up quicker than you’d think once you’re actually having a good time. If you want a break partway through, Al Ittihad Park is a decent spot to hop off for a walk. And check whether Aquaventure sells a combined ticket with the monorail fare built in, sometimes that’s cheaper than paying for both separately. If you want more on what’s actually worth doing on the island beyond the monorail, we’ve got a Palm Jumeirah travel guide that covers it.

Common questions

Is the Palm Monorail open in 2026?

It is, since early July, after being closed since January for station maintenance.

How much does it cost?

Dh10 one way, Dh15 return. Worth checking the family or unlimited pass if you’ll ride more than a couple of times.

How long is the ride?

Nine minutes end to end. Less if you’re only going a stop or two.

When do trains run?

9am to 9:45pm from Gateway. 9:15am to 10pm from Atlantis.

Where does it stop?

Gateway Station, Golden Mile Galleria, Al Ittihad Park, Palm Jumeirah Mall, then Atlantis Aquaventure.

Do I need to book ahead, or can I just show up?

You can just show up. Booking ahead only really helps on weekends when the queue builds up.
